INCOIS (Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, Hyderabad) — MoES

IMD (India Meteorological Department)
Contact individual scientists whose research area matches yours; attach a university recommendation letter. Other RMCs: Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati
PRL (Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad) — DoS / ISRO
Annual structured summer internship (May–July); contact a PRL supervisor first, then submit online application with their consent; supervisor confirmation required by ~April. Hostel accommodation available at ₹100/day. No stipend for students (teachers get ₹15,000/month + travel).
PSUs & Industry
GSI / GSITI (Geological Survey of India Training Institute)
Free registration; courses open to students, scholars, and professionals. GSI also periodically runs a dedicated GSI Internship Programme (GSI-IP) for MSc/MTech geology students.
ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation)
1–2 month summer internship; 125 seats; no stipend; certificate issued. Submit by post to SDC Mumbai by mid-April (window typically opens March 17).
NMDC
Graduate & Technician Apprentice training at mine complexes (Bacheli, Donimalai, Panna) under the Apprenticeship Act 1961. Search 'NMDC' on the Apprenticeship India portal to find current vacancies.
MECL (Mineral Exploration & Consultancy Limited, Nagpur) — Ministry of Mines
ℹ️ 30 vacancies, open 24 Feb – 8 March 2026
1-year training in geological exploration. Graduate & Technician Apprentices apply via NATS portal; Trade Apprentices apply via Apprenticeship India portal.
AMD (Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration & Research, DAE)
AMDSP is AMD's flagship student programme for MSc/MTech geology students; field-based dissertation/project work in uranium & rare mineral exploration. Apply by post/email: addldir-rnd.amd@gov.in
CMPDI (Central Mine Planning & Design Institute, Ranchi)
No public student internship portal; contact the nearest Regional Institute with a university recommendation letter (apply by April for June start). Confirmed Summer Internship Program for geology students runs 4 weeks (June).
Coal India / Subsidiaries (MCL, WCL, BCCL, etc.)
Graduate & Technician Apprentice vacancies under the Apprenticeship Act 1961; apply online or via NATS. Do not use coalindia.in/career-with-cil/.
Academic Fellowships
Science Academies' SRFP (IAS / INSA / NASI)
Two-month fellowship; Physical Sciences division relevant for geology. 2026 application deadline was 31 Jan 2026 (now closed).
JNCASR Summer Research Fellowship Programme
Two-month fellowship; Chemistry, Physics & Mathematical Sciences division relevant for geology. 2026 application ran 22 Dec 2025 – 31 Jan 2026 (closed). Non-refundable ₹500 application fee applies.
